See the Changes and Turbulences of Time through Puppetry

The huge waves of history always sweep ordinary people toward the unknown worlds. We see a colonized man, who has an ambiguous identity, trapped in a foreign battlefield during the war of the colonizer, while another youth, who has just escaped from the calamity, losing connections with his native soil and thus his dream because of the post-war re-drawing of border….And then the political situations change again, so do their identities…

Surviving in the changing history, they have neither choice nor power. They survive to sing many songs of woe and joy. These stories, recounted through various media, become an epitome of the 20th century. Renowned puppetry master Yeung Faï is fascinated with these stories and thus creates a new work that combines numerous stories with modern music and lighting.

In a stage with three-tier screens, Yeung Faï presents intertwined plots which overlap with and, at the same time, reflect each other. With the surrealistic feature of puppetry, this work elaborates both on the historical depth and the characteristics of individuals.
