2013 NTCH New Creation

Fall for Eileen Chang

Gracious swings of music
Unfolding of the inner world hidden in a legendary female talent’s writings

After the enthusiastic reception of YogeeTi, the annual production of 2012, the NTCH has invited two internationally renowned composers Christian Jost and Yiu-Kwong Chung to collaborate with the well-known director of Taiwan theatre, Huan-hsiung Li in producing a music-theatre work permeated with poetry.

Fall for Eileen Chang, NTCH’s annual production of 2013, will combine two new pieces in chamber music with vocalists and percussion forms respectively composed by Jost and Chung, inspired by Eileen Chang’s poetry Love of the Fluttering Autumn Leaf, and short stories The Heart Sutra and Love in a Fallen City. With a coalition of musical concepts of the East and West, this new production is definitely worthy to look forward. Also joining the production is the renowned director Huan-hsiung Li. He skillfully combines new media with audio elements and visual theatrical elements based on Chinese paintings built on free strokes and shunning details. Through the deconstruction and reconstruction, the love story and inner world hidden in texts of a legendary talented female unfold. Indubitably, the audience’s heartstrings will be tugged.

The vocal part will play a significant role in this music-theatre. The NTCH invite renowned vocalists, Li-Chin Huang, Ling-Hui Lin, Jo-Pei Weng and Fernando Wang, to collaborate with National Symphony Orchestra and Forum Music Ensemble.
