The Foremost Bach Interpreter of Our Time, Bringing Back Sounds of the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Ages Back to Life
Following Angela Hewitt through the Corridor of Music, and Encountering Three Great Composers
The program for this recital covers compositions written by Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt, three of the greatest composers related through their music. Beethoven once said that Bach ought to be called “Sea” rather than “Bach” (“brook” or “stream” in German) because of the prolificacy and breadth of his works and he was substantially influenced by Bach. Liszt, a disciple of Beethoven’s student Carl Czerny, inherited Beethoven’s relentless creativity and composed countless magnificent and challenging works for piano.
Hewitt’s ten-year project to record all the major piano works of Bach has been described as “one of the record glories of our age” by the Sunday Times. She will perform masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods in her first visit to Taiwan. You are invited to attend this recital to witness how she reveals characteristics of each piece and the intricate relationships among these three composers.
Angela Hewitt, the foremost interpreter of Bach of our time, has toured across six continents, 21 countries, and 58 cities to perform Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier, a collection nicknamed “The Old Testament”. She was given the title ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2006 Gramophone Awards and was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in the same year. Orchestras which she has performed with include The Cleveland, Toronto Symphony, Philharmonia, BBC Scottish Symphony, Rotterdams Philharmonisch, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Hewitt is the Artistic Director of the Trasimeno Music Festival in Umbria.
