A Dialogue of Rhythms between Indian Traditional Dance and Western Percussion
Dedicated to the Essence of Music While Creating Intriguing Sounds from Unusual Perspectives

SAMA is a collaboration of two artists from very different backgrounds: Arushi Mudgal, the famous dancer of Indian traditional Odissi, and Roland Auzet, French composer and percussionist. Through witty dialogues and debates, they build a bridge between music and dance, and jointly beat a new path in European percussive music. While Roland Auzet beats drums and percussion instruments, hand-made and traditional, Arushi Mudgal dances along with the rhythms and shows the most fascinating technique that seemingly makes feet and floor into oneness. It’s all about musicality and rhythm. SAMA represents a commitment to openness, to discovering something new in others, and using it as inspiration on the journey from tradition to innovation.

Roland Auzet

Roland Auzet, graduated from the Paris Conservatory and trained in a circus academy, is a talented composer, percussionist and theater director. He received the “Chevalier of Arts and Letters” from French Ministry of Culture in 2007.

Arushi Mudgal

Born in Delhi, Arushi Mudgal comes from a long line of dancers and musicians and is one of the finest dancers in the field of Odissi today. She has been a guest performer at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and — at the invitation of Pina Bausch — at the Internationale Tanzmess(Düsseldorf) in 2008.
