Physically Decoding the Remains and Echoes of Memories

Listen carefully to the calm heart beats, to the abrasion of aging joints, to the vibration of rooms, to the breathing of children, to the rhythm of traffic signals, to the humming of the city…keep your eyes closed, and the sounds of your body and surroundings will become clearer. From the rhythms of sounds, we sense the moving moments in lives.

If sounds are lost in memories, will we lose attachment and feelings too? Sounds, Body, Memories, the latest work by the Taishin Arts Award winner Lai Tsui-shuang, pays homage to the memories of sounds by portraying the encounter between body and sounds. The dancer’s body therefore becomes the receiver as well as the speaker of emotions, extending and transforming the remains and echoes of memories.

The sounds always travel further, within and without the theater, and thus every distinct story of lives continue to play on…
