Hofesh Shechter, Illuminating Star in Contemporary Dance

Hofesh Shechter, who once amazed Taipei with his Political Mother in 2012, is coming back to Taiwan with his latest production, Sun. With the Israeli heritage and London cultural influence, Hofesh Shechter has surprised the world’s dance scene with his energy and creativity for the past seven years. From the background of the Israeli traditional dance, Shechter presents the outburst of amazing creative capability in contemporary dance like a rock-n-roll star. His works are never pretentious, but directly appeal to the audiences’ senses. The 15 dancers in Sun jump and stump along with the precise tempo of an eclectic soundtrack that includes original music by Shechter himself. In the chaos and confusion of the dark world, a light will eventually illuminate, showing the fearless power in the face of the sun. Sun made its premiere at Melbourne Festival, Australia, and then toured to New York for the Next Wave Festival, Olso (Norway), St Polten (Austria), Plymouth (UK) and so forth.

Artistic Director｜Hofesh Shechter

Artistic Director Hofesh Shechter is the winner of the Critics’ Circle Award for best choreography (modern) in 2008 (UK) and the Movimentos Most Promising Newcomer in Dance Award in 2009 (Germany). Shechter was invited to choreograph for the Salon de Musique for Hermes in 2010, and has performed around the world in such major international venues as the Sydney Opera House, Théâtre de la Ville, and LG Arts Center in Seoul, etc.
