Nostalgic Style of Swing Jazz from Paris
Breaks Into a Bizarre Adventure of Fantasy

The animated film Les Triplettes de Belleville, directed by famous French animator Sylvain Chomet, is an international co-production among companies in France, Belgium and Canada, and has taken major film festivals in Europe and the United States by storm. As one of the most high-profile French film after Amélie, the animation has been nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature. Les Triplettes de Belleville tells the story about a fat boy, Champion, who enters the Tour de France but during the race, is kidnapped by two French mafia henchmen. A trio of eccentric jazz-era divas then decide to join the rescue operation to save Champion, and thus the adventure turning the world upside down begins. Benoît Charest, composer of the original score, based on the swing jazz in the 1920s and 1930s, employs various instruments, such as trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass, guitar, keyboard, accordion, jazz drums and percussion instruments etc, to establish the key tone of humor and warmth for the film, portraying the witty nostalgia of black comedy.
