Flowing Sleeves and Rouge is the last play of the “Trilogy of Opera Actors” pro- duced by Guoguang Opera Company. After the retrospection presented in Meng Xiaodong and the history of Chinese Opera presented in One Hundred Years on Stage, Flowing Sleeves and Rouge deals with a different theme: a fantastic element in unreal time and space that shows imaginative powers and spiritual repose of opera actors. Since ancient times, actors have played such diverse roles, displaying excellent skills to present stories in real life, yet they cannot escape the fate of wan- dering without a destination. So the actors devised a mythical guardian angel who is capable of appreciating their performances and who can consolidate their faith. However, such commitment is fantastic in nature, so at the end of the play, the diva does not know where she will end up. She can only rely on her skills, dressed up exquisitely as a fairy, as she sings songs of Kun Opera or Chinese Opera, and waves her flowing sleeves with rouge on her cheeks, and keeps on singing until the end of the world.
The production group of One Hundred Years on Stage, including Director Lee Shiao- Pin, playwrights Wang An-Chi, Zhao Xue-Jun, as well as actors Wei Hai-Min, Tang Wen-Hua, and Wen Yu-Hang collaborate again for the production of this play.
