Voyages, the first delicated production of Salamandrum, the percussion duet founded in 2011 by two esteemed Israeli percussionists Tomer Yariv and Gilad Dobrecki, blends folk tunes from Morocco, Persia, Jew, Africa, with classical, jazz, and funk music, on the middle-eastern rhythmic elements. The concert, accompanied by the NSO under the baton of renowned German conductor, Alexander Drcar, will be exploring the spirit of different cultures with intensity, dynamics, and impeccability, including world premiere piece “Khyba” and “Spirits Journey”. It is an alluring performance for the audience to launch into a journey across the boundary of nationality, mind, history, and culture. It will eventually overthrow your knowledge about percussion.
Yariv is internationally well-known for his PercaDu, a duet for percussion founded in 1996 and acclaimed by Maestro Zubin Mehta as “two individuals who can achieve that kind of virtuosity.” Its attendance at the 2011 Taiwan International Percussion Convention was highly appraised. Yariv is active in the global jazz scenes and festivals of world music. As a versatile musician, he has joined production of film music and collaborated with leading orchestras, such as the New York Philharmonic. Dobrecki is acclaimed as one of the greatest percussionists of jazz. He regularly collaborates with celebrated American jazz musicians. His works, mixing musical elements of the Middle East, Africa, and Brazil, with classical music and jazz, capture the attention of audience over the world.
